1. Blogging & Registering

To participate in 23 Mobile Things, each participant needs a blog. In the blog you will write posts about each Thing you do, what you learned, and how you could use the concepts or apps in your work or for yourself.

Blogging

If you already have a blog you can register it, but when you write posts for this program please include “23 Mobile Things” and the number of the Thing you’re doing somewhere in the title of the post. This is just so it’s easier for us to find each post.

If you do not have a blog, there are several free blogging platforms and you can choose whichever you’d like. Here are a couple suggestions and getting started tips for two different platforms.

tumblrTumblr: Apple / Android

Tumblr is a free, short-form blogging platform. It is fast-growing and popular with teens and college-aged users. It is owned by Yahoo. Tumblr is media heavy in that they make it easy for users to post multimedia content to their posts. You don’t have to include media, but if you look at other Tumblr accounts you’ll see a lot of gifs, images, and videos.

bloggerBlogger: Apple / Android

Blogger is Google’s free blogging platform, so if you already have a Google account you can sign into Blogger with that same account. Blogger has been around since the early days of the web, so it was one of the most recognizable names in free blogging platforms.

Look at the top of the website and click where it says The 23 Things. All of them are linked there.

Are we supposed to create our blog in one site vs. another? Does it matter if we use wordpress, tumblr or blogger?

You can use any blogging platform you prefer. We recommended Blogger & Tumblr because they are easy to use and each has an app.

Rochester Public Schools people are not able to use Tumblr. It is blocked and we can’t load the app on district equipment. We also can’t view other blogs on Tumblr.

You don’t have to use Tumblr – you can use Blogger or WordPress or another blog of your choice as long as it’s made public so we can view your posts.
