Sure, there are great apps that everyone around the world talks about, but there are also great local apps you may want to use to connect to your community. We’re not going to give you the obvious apps from your region or the state. You probably know that there’s a Pioneer Press app, so we don’t need to tell you about it. These apps are some that maybe haven’t hit your radar.
For Thing 18, we’re going to list some apps for Minnesota as a whole as well as per Multitype region, though some regions have more than others. You’ll find apps for local adventures, sports, news and more. We’re not going to give you a lot of information about each app, so you’ll have to dive in and explore.

From Northland’s NewsCenter, this app provides local news, weather, sports and other information for Duluth, Iron Range cities, the North Shore, Superior and Northwestern Wisconsin.
Central Minnesota Librares Exchange (CMLE)
Connect with St. Cloud State University on your devices. Whether at home or on campus the interactive student guide will accompany you as you explore SCSU’s offerings through the use of the GPS-enabled campus map, student videos and photos.
KCLD is one of the most popular radio stations in the St. Cloud area, and you can listen to it live via this app. You can also rate songs you like, purchase songs from the app, or text directly to the radio station.
Need to report a pothole or broken streetlight? How about graffiti, icy streets, or damage to city parks? You can do all of this and more with St. Paul Connect.
Minneapolis Skyway: Apple only
Need help navigating the 8 miles of skyway in downtown Minneapolis? This app is for you. It has a searchable map, GPS, parking info and more.
Minneapolis by Open Spaces: Apple only
This app is a great way to find great places and events in Minneapolis. You can also submit information and photos, but all items are approved by an editor before being added to the content.
It’s not just Minneapolis and St. Paul in the metro area. If you want to learn more about Hopkins, including historic info and present-day attractions, download this app.
Created by the Star Tribune, this app guides you through the latest happenings in the Twin Cities metro, from the hottest nightlife to family-friendly attractions.

This is MnDOT’s official official traffic and traveler app. It includes statewide, real-time traffic information for interstates, U.S. routes, and state highways. Find road conditions, accidents, traffic cams and more.

You might have the MPR News app, but do you have MPR Radio? Listen to Minnesota Public Radio anywhere you go with the MPR Radio player. This application lets you listen to all seven of MPR’s streams: The Current, Local Current, Classical MPR, MPR News, Radio Heartland, Wonderground Radio, and the Choral Stream from Classical MPR.
MN Beer Activists: Android only
We were going to stick this app under Thing 19: Hobbies, because we have a couple wine apps there, but since this is Minnesota focused we decided it could go here. For any of you beer enthusiasts, this might be an app for you. It’s full of news about Minnesota brewers, beer enthusiasts, and even legislation of interest to beer lovers.
